The home Australian TV icon Kerri-Anne Kennerley once shared with her beloved late husband John is set for a transformation.
The Wellington St, Woollahra property was said to have sold off market for a suburb breaking record $23 million in August.
Ms Kennerley told The Australian she still lived in the home but agreed to put her name to the $5.5 million development application dreamt up by the mystery buyer and lodged with Woollahra Council as due to a prolonged settlement period, she is technically still the owner.
The two storey circa 1885 Victorian era home is listed as a contributory item within the Rosemont Precinct of the Woollahra Heritage Conservation Area.
Elegant plans by leading firm Marker Architecture and Design will retain the building’s facade and reconstruct its veranda based on historical photographs of the mansion.
The plans also feature a new attic, reimagined courtyard and pool, reconfigured garage and new barbecue area.
“The proposed works have been sympathetically designed to make a positive contribution to the character of the precinct and the conservation area,” documents before Woollahra Council read.
Other highlights of the proposal include a mudroom where inhabitants and their visitors can peel off coats and boots, a gym and a dedicated guest suite created by extending the existing loft.
The overall height of the home will not change.
Ms Kennerley purchased the stunning residence in 1997 just prior to leaving her role at the Midday show.
