Queens Park crash: Woman dies in crash

A woman in her 20s has died in a horror crash in the eastern suburbs. Emergency services were called to Queens Park where the driver was declared dead at the scene.

A woman has died following a single-vehicle crash in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

About 6.30am (Wednesday 19 May 2021) emergency services were called to reports of a single vehicle crash near the intersection of York Road and Queens Park Road, Queens Park.

The driver of the vehicle died at the scene.

She is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 20s.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A police spokeswoman said the young female victim was still in the process of being formally identified.

She said all factors, including if a medical episode could have contributed, were being considered.

“We’re still trying to establish the circumstances, it will all form part of the investigation,” she said.

Traffic was chaotic across the eastern suburbs in the aftermath of the crash as York Road was closed. Transport for NSW confirmed at 2.30pm that buses were once again using York Road and this afternoon’s commute would proceed as normal

A number of buses were cancelled and most were heavily delayed as police and emergency crews worked at the accident scene.

Route 357 and school buses 634e, 683e, 697e and 715e diverted away from York Rd, instead using Queens Park Rd and Baronga Ave.

Nearby routes were also impacted due to the delays.

The site of the crash is near to Moriah College but a staff member confirmed that nobody from the school was involved.

“It was a very sad tragedy that happened,” the staff member said.

“Traffic was more challenging than normal … but the school day went ahead as normal.”
