Potts Point could soon be the site of major redevelopment plans, if a $56m proposal for an ultra-modern apartment building is approved.
Developers submitted a nine-storey apartment complex at 45-53 Macleay St, located between Elizabeth and Woolloomooloo Bay, to City of Sydney Council.
Major features of the proposal include 28 residential apartments, featuring six one- , three two- and 19 three-bedroom apartments, as well as a retail tenancy along Macleay St frontage.
“An area of communal open space is located on Ground Floor and includes landscape planting, pots, seating areas and a 3x15m pool.” planners said.
“Two levels of basement provide for 26 residential car spaces, 5 retail spaces and 28 bicycle parking spaces for residents within individual storage areas.”
Car access is planned for McDonald St.
As part of the proposal, architects Black Beetle revealed concept plans for the building.
“The rooftop area includes landscaping for two private terrace areas with pergolas, with planting providing a visual relief between the two terraces.” the architect said.
“The ground floor landscape scheme seeks to create a definition between the public and private domains through a strip of deep soil planting on the western edge of the site … to obscure views of the private open space from the surrounding public areas.”
Three architects will be involved in the final design process of the project, to meet design excellence objectives outlined by City of Sydney Council which aims to maintain the urban design character of the Potts Point locality.
“Throughout the competitive design process, the Applicant (architect) will seek ongoing consultation with City of Sydney Council to ensure an optimal outcome is achieved for the site and the local area.” the planner said.
The proposed development aims to create construction jobs, as well as local and regional jobs via the provision of retail premises.
Points Point is the historical centre for high density residential living in Australia, and until the early 2000s, Macleay Street accommodated the highest density living environments across the country
Comments on the proposal are open until December 7.
