NSW government employee faced court for drink, drug driving after attending a house party in Eastgardens.

A night that started with wine and MDMA at a raucous house party ended with an arrest when a government employee from Sydney’s east was caught driving still drunk and high the morning after.

A state government employee with an impeccable record faced the law for a house party rager that ended in arrest when he was stung by a random police test the morning after.

Timothy Collis, 27, was charged with driving with a mid range PCA and illicit drug at Waverley Local Court on July 20.

Collis’ lawyer told the court the young eastern suburbs man - facing his first offence - had “very strong community ties” and was extremely unlikely to reoffend.

The court heard Collis holds a public service position serving a state government minister.

But Magistrate Ross Hudson told the court Collis must face the consequences of driving with drugs in his system that “places other road users at risk.”

Documents tendered to court state that at about 7.15am on Sunday 24 April police conducting stationary testing on Wentworth Ave in Eastgardens approached Collis in his car and told him he was being stopped for random testing.

Collis showed police his driver‘s licence, and the police facts said at this point police noticed his breath smelt heavily of liquor.

Collis underwent a roadside breath test that was positive, the facts said, and police arrested him and took him to Maroubra Police Station.

At the station Collis admitted to drinking seven wines of numerous sizes between 10pm and 2am at a house party as well as consuming the drug MDMA.

A breath analysis returned a reading of 0.116g of alcohol in 210L of breath, and a drug test showed up positive for methamphetamine, the facts said.

According to the facts police said they were of the opinion Collis was heavily affected by liquor and drugs.

The court heard Collis holds a public service position serving a state government minister and recently purchased his own home.

Magistrate Hudson told the court he sent the same message to young men in his court every day of the danger placed on the community by individuals driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

“You must understand, when you are on the road and when you have drugs in your system, that’s a risk you put onto the community,” Magistrate Hudson said.

“That places other road users at risk.”

Magistrate Hudon convicted Collis, fined him $750 and disqualified him from holding a drivers licence for three months.
