$50 notes in black Coach bag: Aspiring fitness influencer caught in Double Bay cocaine dial-a-dealer bust

A 28-year-old woman dreaming of building a fitness empire on social media was slammed by a magistrate after being caught in Double Bay with 23 bags of cocaine and $50 notes stuffed in her designer bag.

An aspiring fitness influencer claimed she was forced into selling drugs on the streets of ritzy Double Bay when her account was drained of $15,000 through a cyber scam.

Sarah Camille Diaz, 28, was discovered with 23 small bags of cocaine and $1500 in $50 notes in a black bag from luxury brand Coach by police late on a Saturday night, court documents show.

She was charged with supplying a prohibited drug and dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of a crime.

Diaz’ lawyer Mr Fadi Abbas told the court the young woman was recently the victim of a cyber scam that left her savings account completely empty after $15000 was allegedly stolen.

“She was basically defrauded of her savings,” Mr Abbas said.

Court documents show that at around 10.15pm on Saturday April 9 police noticed a white Toyota Echo driving around the same streets near Knox Street in Double Bay, with two separate incidents where people entered the car and got out soon after.

Police saw two women get into the car, which drove around Double Bay for a few minutes before the women got out on Knox Street in almost the exact spot they got into the car.

Police stopped Diaz and questioned her, she said “she picked them up at the Golden Sheaf pub and dropped them around the corner”, the documents said.

When police asked Diaz if there were drugs in the car she “hesitated but did not respond”, documents said.

Police searched the car and found 23 small clear bags of cocaine weighing 15 grams within a bigger bag in the passenger seat pocket and $1500 in a black Coach bag.

They also searched Diaz’s mobile phone, which showed text message conversations with numerous people regarding drug supply.

Diaz’ lawyer Mr Fadi Abbas told the Wentworth Courier outside court Diaz was the victim of a cyber scammer who accessed her internet banking and syphoned off her savings.

Mr Abbas said the police were informed and investigated the matter.

Diaz pleaded guilty to both crimes in the conviction.

Magistrate Hudson convicted Diaz of supplying a prohibited drug and dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of a crime and fined her $2000.

The magistrate told Diaz it was “just ridiculous” to think she could “set up a business” selling cocaine to recoup the losses from an alleged fraud.

Diaz works in the e-commerce industry as a marketing assistant, court documents show.

Her “misconception that she could profit from this” must be countered by the court, the magistrate said.

“There must be a message sent.”
