Matteo Grassi: Maroubra man charged following alleged Matraville punch up
A 24-year-old man faced court following the alleged assault of a 23-year-old man on a Matraville footpath which left him in hospital with serious injuries.

A Maroubra man faced court on Friday after being arrested following an alleged punch up on Wednesday night that left a man unconscious with head injuries in Matraville.
Matteo Grassi, 24, was charged with causing reckless grievous bodily harm at Waverley Local Court on Friday.
Court documents show Grassi was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Trae Mason between 11.59pm and 1.45am on June 9 at Bunnerong Road in Matraville.
Grassi was arrested after the discovery of a young man who was left unconscious and with serious head injuries on a Matraville footpath.
Officers attached to the Eastern Beaches police area command were called to Bunnerong Rd about 1.30am on Thursday, and found the 23-year-old man.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man at the scene, later transporting him to Prince of Wales Hospital with a suspected fractured jaw. He has remained in a serious but stable condition on Friday.
As part of the investigation, police released images and a description of a man they believed could assist them in their inquiries.
By 2.50pm, a 24-year-old man was arrested at a Maroubra home and taken to Maroubra police station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm.
Detective Inspector Michael Capon said in a press statement that police believed there had been a confrontation earlier that evening between the injured man and a second male within a licensed premises following the State of Origin.
There was also an alleged confrontation on the street afterwards.
“There was [alleged] assaults while the victim was standing up and it appears he‘s sustained some injuries from the blow and also from the man striking his head on the footpath,” Det Insp Capon said.
Mr Capon confirmed there were multiple witnesses to the alleged assault.
Investigations were continuing as the 24-year-old was denied bail to appear in Waverley Local Court today.
The matter will return to court on June 22.
