A Victorian man has been caught high-range drink-driving in Bondi just weeks after flipping a van, bolting from the scene and lying about who was behind the wheel.
Jeremy McCormack, 31, originally from Victoria but now living in Bondi, fronted Waverley Local Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to two serious charges of high-range drink-driving and knowingly make false or misleading statement.
McCormack was driving a van in Bondi about 5am on Sunday, March 22 when he lost control and flipped the vehicle onto its side blocking traffic on Denham St, the agreed facts stated.
When police arrived McCormack and his passenger had already left the area and the van had to be towed.
Later that day, McCormack made a stolen vehicle report with police, but was later charged with make false statement when officers found out he lied in the report and was in fact driving the van.
He told police he lied because “I did not want to get in trouble”, the agreed facts stated.
Less than a month later, McCormack was in hot water again with police when he failed a random breath test while driving a ute during the early hours of April 18 on Curlewis St, Bondi.
He was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station where he returned a breath analysis of 0.159 and was charged with high-range drink driving.
Magistrate Greg Grogin asked for a sentence assessment report to be completed ahead of his sentencing on September 1.
“The court will be considering a term of imprisonment for making a false statement in these circumstances,” Mr Grogin said.
The court also heard McCormack had past offences on his record including failing to exchange particulars.
