Daniel Walsh: Drug driving charge over Eastgardens crash death

A much loved Navy sailor was riding home from work when he was knocked from his scooter in Sydney’s southeast and killed. The driver of the other vehicle has now been hit with fresh charges.

The driver charged over a fatal crash in Eastgardens which killed Navy sailor Daniel Walsh has been hit with fresh charges including drug driving.

Daniel Walsh, 29, from Little Bay, was knocked from his scooter while riding home from work on Friday, May 8 at the intersection of Fitzgerald Ave and Bunnerong Rd near Westfield Eastgardens.

Mr Walsh died in hospital from his injuries.

The crash involved his scooter and a Mitsubishi Challenger driven by a 22-year-old man from Hillsdale.

Police charged the 22-year-old man with negligent driving occasioning death.

On Wednesday, following further inquiries, police charged him with two further offences including drive vehicle with illicit drug present in blood and dangerous driving occasioning death – driver manner dangerous.

He remains on bail and will appear at Waverley Local Court on July 29.

Mr Walsh’s partner Karliagh McQuade-Walls revealed, following her partner’s death, that she found a hidden receipt for an engagement ring at their home days after the crash.

Mr Walsh was remembered as a “kind and gentle man” by those close to him, as hundreds of tributes were made on Facebook following his tragic death.
