The partner of a sailor killed in a crash in Eastgardens has said she refuses to be angry at the man who allegedly crashed into his scooter.

Tributes have been paid to Daniel Walsh, 29, from Little Bay, who was knocked from his scooter in a fatal crash last Friday afternoon at the intersection of Fitzgerald Ave and Bunnerong Rd.

Mr Walsh later died in hospital.

The crash involved his scooter and a Mitsubishi Challenger driven by a 22-year-old man from Hillston in country NSW. The 22-year-old man has since been charged with negligent driving occasioning death.

Walsh’s partner Karliagh McQuade-Walls posted on Facebook that she was not angry with the driver of the SUV.

“I refuse to be angry at the young man that struck and killed him, we all make mistakes, we all drive too fast or have moments of missed judgment, it wasn't his intent to murder an innocent kind man,” she posted.

“He has to live knowing he killed another human.”

Walsh worked for the Navy and was riding home from work when the crash happened, his partner posted.

“I am forever thankful for those that fought to save him, those that gave me the chance to be with him as he passed through their gift of blood donation,” she wrote.

“Mostly I'm thankful of my love for gifting me with his strength, through 7 years of love and support.”

She also wrote she found a hidden receipt for an engagement ring at their home days later and they “had big plans for life together”.

“The military are honouring him, the officer and captain of his ship are making his funeral be possible in the church we talked about one day being married in. His family, my family OUR family are honouring my love.”

Tributes have flooded in from hundreds of people for Walsh on social media, remembering him as a “kind and gentle man”.

“He had the uncanny ability to make you laugh even on the worst of days, a true gem of a person.”

Another person posted: “Another shipmate taken too soon. Walshy served with me on HMAS Hobart. Fair winds and following seas – Rest easy mate.”
