WHAT trumps a wedding? A baby, of course.
Nine’s television star Erin Molan, 34, has revealed she put her nuptials to policeman fiance Sean Ogilvy, 42 — due to be held this week — on hold for the impending arrival of their baby next year.
The NRL Footy Show co-host, who shared the exciting announcement on Nine’s news on Friday night, told The Wentworth Courier she had planned to say “I do” this week in a secret ceremony on an island in Sydney in front of family and friends — but the couple’s plans changed once she discovered she was expecting.
“There were no plans [for the pregnancy], we were just kind of whenever it happens it happens,” Molan revealed at Ortenzia Borre’s What Women Need book launch at The Langham Hotel last Friday which she hosted.
“We were meant to get married this week and we were planning to go ahead with that - but when we got the news about bubba we thought this was obviously the priority, so our plans have changed!
“We’d love to have him or her with us at the wedding — my big sister got married and her daughter Sophie was a baby and she was part of that wedding. It was just so special for her to look back at and know she was there.”
Molan, who is over the three month mark, says that members of his fiance’s family — including his brother and nan — have still flown to Sydney for summer despite the wedding not going ahead as planned.
“We were going to get married on an island on the harbour but when we found out — about eight weeks ago — we put it all on hold. A lot of his family have still kept their plans which is nice. His grandmother flew in yesterday from Hawaii which is lovely, so I do feel a bit guilty but they all understand.”
The Randwick couple met at Justin Hemme’s establishment The Coogee Pavilion (she was on a girls night out) and were engaged earlier this year.
Ogilvy, a Detective Senior Constable, proposed in Tasmania with a bespoke oval diamond and double halo 18k white gold ring by House of K’dor.
She admits she has “been a little sick” and wasn’t going to say anything for a while but told her bosses on Friday and found herself making the impromptu announcement on air to new Today Show host Georgie Gardner.
“It’s too exciting to keep in,” she laughed admitting she would continue to work once the bub was born.
“Work has been a big part of my life for the past thirteen years, it’s all I’ve really known and it’s a huge part of my life, so it’s very important to me that will continue.”
The couple aren’t sure whether they’ll find out the baby’s sex, with Molan revealing they have another scan in January.
“We’re undecided at this stage, I’m in two minds about it.”
One thing she does know for sure is the wedding will be back on at some stage, it’s just postponed. And it appears it’s all rosy with her new family, admitting she has been blessed with an awesome mother-in-law too.
“Sean and I are so blessed we are really close to our mums. You always here these horror stories about mother-in-laws and she’s so divine — my own mum I can’t speak highly enough about either. If I’m half as impressive as both of them, then I’ll be doing okay. They are both really great role models.”
As for her planned parenting style? “I’m sure it will be unique,” she laughs. “I can pick a winner at Randwick, but we’ll have to wait and see if I can make baby mash. It’ll be a foreign world but one I’m really excited about.”
