Three high-achieving eastern suburbs schools have celebrated their HSC success across maths, science, English and the creative arts as a hectic journey toward the end of high school comes to an end for some students.
St Clare’s College, Cranbrook and St Catherines recorded a stellar set of HSC results.
Sydney Catholic School, St Clare’s College Waverley saw 32 HSC students receive a Band 6, with 29 of 30 courses delivering results above the state average.
Two notable top-performing students includes Year 9 Accelerated maths student, Anna Vincent Hull who received a Band 6 with a mark of 93/100, and school DUX Chloe Colman who received an ATAR of 99.35.
St Clare’s College principal Kerrie McDiarmid credited the hard work and dedication of the school’s teachers along with students
“The College’s explicit focus on growth, combined with our mentoring program, with staff and alumni, has ensured continued student success,” Mrs McDiarmid said.
“This year’s results reflect some of the best individual student growth the College has seen, with a number of students receiving marks placing them among the top performers in the state,” she said.
Cranbrook School had three students named as first in course, a top ATAR of 99.95, and seven students with a grade of 99 or higher.
Cranbrook student Lachlan Harris received a 99.95 score – and was one of just 48 students in NSW to do so.
Mr Harris came first in state in chemistry and physics, joining fellow student Luke Sinden who came first in the state in drama.
Cranbrook School’s headmaster Nicholas Sampson called the results “exceptional.”
The school’s achievements “reflect both the diverse academic strengths of our students and the dedication of our passionate and talented teaching staff,” Mr Sampson said.
This cohort is remarkable – a fabulously high calibre of students who have stood apart for their leadership, tenacity and resilience,” he said.
“We have witnessed an incredibly dynamic and strong cohort who have pushed themselves and have shown us the global minded attitudes of what it means to be a Cranbrook student.”
St Catherine’s School Waverley ranked 13th in the state for the 2022 HSC, and represented one of only four non-selective schools ranked in the top 15.
Several students ranked at the top of the state, including Gewa (Isabella) Lan who ranked first in the state in English as an additional language/dialect.
Other noteworthy achievements include head girl Rhiannon Jones who came second in the state in drama, and Emily Buchanan who ranked third in Economics.
Headmistress Dr Julie Townsend said the results were a team effort.
“What is most important to us is that the results reflect our students’ determination to study what they enjoy, work hard and achieve their best,” Dr Townsend said.
“These results also reflect the selfless dedication of our staff, who go well beyond their role descriptions to do their best for each student.”
