Chris Kenny of Sky News in hunt for owner of mystery diamond ring

An unclaimed diamond ring, a nailbiting football clash and one very perplexed Chris Kenny. Can you help solve this Sydney mystery?

Chris Kenny is on a one man mission to track down the owner of a vintage diamond he found abandoned on the eve of a nailbiting clash at the SCG.

It was May 1 and the host of The Kenny Report on Sky News and columnist with The Australian had parked on Stewart St in Paddington and was walking to the Swans match with the Brisbane Lions along with his children.

“I got out of my car and there was this intriguing little box on the footpath, I picked it up, opened it and was amazed to see a sparkling diamond ring in it,” Kenny said.

“There was no one around, it wasn’t near a door or pathway so I held on to it and rang the police after the game.

“They were not particularly interested and said it could be dropped to any police station, which sounded to me like it might just be forgotten.

“There were a few clues, such as the jewellery store named on the box, so I wanted to do what I could to track down the owner.”

However upon calling the jeweller Kenny was intrigued to discover the ring was likely more than a decade old.

Kenny recruited his radio star mate to assist with the search to no avail.

”I rang Ben Fordham on air the next morning and he had a chat on his 2GB breakfast show but sadly no one responded,” Kenny said.

“Later I sent Ben a picture to post on his social media stream but nothing has come of that either.”

Kenny said he was determined to get to the bottom of the matter.

“But still, we’ve heard nothing, initially I thought someone would be broken hearted, was this a proposal in the making?” Kenny said.

“Maybe it’s a really valuable family heirloom, maybe it’s gone missing when someone moved house or maybe it was stolen.

“There is an inscription in the ring, so apart from being valuable it must be very important to someone.

“It’s obviously reasonably valuable but it’s obviously also got that sentimental value, it must be very precious to someone.

“Someone must be missing the ring and there must be a story behind it, I’d love to reunite the owner with this ring, and if they want to, I’d love to know the story.”

The person claiming the ring will have to provide identifying details.
