Two men who were allegedly discovered with a car full of cocaine, weapons and cash in Rose Bay earlier this month appeared briefly before Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.
Police will allege Macquarie Fields man Burhan Rauf, 22, was behind the wheel and Hassan Metwari, 26, of Bankstown, in the passenger seat when they were allegedly discovered with the contraband in a Volkswagen Golf as part of a routine police vehicle stop along New South Head Rd around 8pm on Saturday July 4.
Officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command will allege after searching the vehicle they found a baton, a knife, cocaine and $8200 in cash.
The men were taken to Waverley police station and Rauf was charged with one count each of supplying and possessing drugs, carrying a knife in public and using a prohibited weapon without a permit and two counts of dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Metwari was charged with drug supply and possession, and dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Both men were given bail the following day in Parramatta Local Court and so appeared in person with their lawyers at Waverley on Wednesday.
The diminutive Metwari was dwarfed by his lawyer Elias Matouk, while Rauf wore a black puffer jacket to shield him from the cold eastern suburbs morning.
Both lawyers asked for a one week adjournment with Rauf’s solicitor indicating he would plea on the next occasion.
The men will next appear before Waverley court on July 22.
