Bronte RSL revamp builder fined five times

WAVERLEY Council has fined the builder of the Bronte RSL redevelopment site five times since plans for a new building were approved in 2015.

A council spokeswoman said each infringement notice was for contravening the conditions of the development consent, specifically for failing to comply with the construction vehicle and pedestrian plan of management.

Save Bronte spokesman Stephen Lightfoot said the latest breach was “unbelievable to say the least”.

“On 28 June, the Waverley Development Assessment Panel, acting on independent expert planning advice, specifically refused (the developer RDA Property Group’s) request to drive piling rigs up Chesterfield Lane which is a small residential rear-access laneway,” he said.

Bronte RSL has been the subject of a controversial DA application for years.

“No matter because, contrary to the rules, on 17 August a large piling rig was driven the wrong way up the one-way laneway to access the RSL site.

“Not only was this a breach of the rules and a traffic infringement, it resulted in damage to the surface of the laneway.”

Dr Lightfoot said he hoped council would use the developer’s bond money to pay for the laneway repairs.

“Because the ratepayers of Waverley should not have to pay for the consequences of this brazen act,” he said.
RDA Group head Danny Avidan did not respond to request for comment.
