The results are in and there is a three-way tie for the best hairdresser in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and inner city after readers voted in our poll. FIND OUT WHO THE WINNER IS.

In the east and inner city we stick with our favourite hairdressers through thick and thin – even when things get curly – so it’s no wonder our best hairdresser poll got such an enthusiastic response.

The votes were so tight even a keratin treatment couldn’t smooth them out so we had a three-way tie for first place.

Kylie McCarthy of Pulse Hair Maroubra, Brad Ngata Hair Darlinghurst and The Salon by Ash Croker were all crowned winners of the reader voted competition run by Central Sydney News and the Southern and Wentworth Couriers.

After 30 years in the business, Brad Ngata knows his regular clients so well he customises a playlist prior to their arrival.

Mr Ngata said he was “tickled pink” so many of his loyal clients had voted for him.

“I pride myself on the service and attention to detail I take in my work,” Mr Ngata said.

“Winning Hair Expo’s Australian Hairdresser of the year, creating an intimate private studio and one-on-one attention from start to finish allows me complete control over all services.

“I have worked on every hair type to create bright blondes, natural colours and I’ve got a non-mummsy hair policy.”

Ash Croker has been a hairdresser for about 17 years and started her own salon in August last year at Clovelly.

“I love what I do. Everyday I live and breathe it,” she said.

“I love to make people feel good and push them out of their comfort zone.”

The eastern suburbs local said she chose Clovelly to open her salon because it had a nice pace.

“I think the energy in Clovelly is really beautiful … and I wanted somewhere where it was easy and people can switch off a bit.”

The Salon by Ash Croker will soon undergo renovations to cope with increasing demand.

Kylie McCarthy previously owned a salon in Malabar and now rents a chair at Pulse Hair Maroubra.

The talented hairdresser of two decades experience said building relationships with her clients was among her favourite parts of the job.

“I think good customer service goes a long way. I like dealing with people and having good relationships with people,” she said.

“I love the people and they become like your friends.”
