A man who allegedly sent horrific threats to his girlfriend, including “I will kill you and bury your body” and “you’re gonna burn” with a fire emoji, has been refused bail.

Angus Lewington, 30, appeared in Waverley Local Court on Wednesday on charges of assault, stalking and intimidation, choking a woman and contravening an apprehended violence order.

The Glenorie man pleaded guilty to breaking the conditions of the AVO but entered pleas of not guilty to five counts of stalking, three counts of assault and one count of intentional strangulation.

According to documents tendered to court the alleged crimes took place between April 2021 and June 2022 at Bondi Junction.

Magistrate Ross Hudson read out in court several of a string of shocking messages Lewington allegedly sent and noted photos had been provided showing bite marks on the woman.

Lewington allegedly sent a series of threatening texts to the women.

The court heard Lewington had allegedly attempted to strangle his girlfriend by holding her down for 10 seconds and only stopped when she screamed out; “you’re killing me”.

Police prosecutor Scarlet O’Toole said there was a “strong prosecution case” for Lewington thanks to “corroborating text messages, voice messages” which supported the woman’s version of events.

Lewington’s lawyer argued his client was “trying to do something with his life” and had taken a job in Penrith.

However the lawyer accepted Lewington was “aware” he required assistance with ongoing mental health concerns.

Magistrate Hudson told the court he could not ignore the man’s past record of “threatening and violent behaviour” which he described as “physical, threatening and controlling in nature”.

“It is one I cannot turn a blind eye to,” he said.

Magistrate Hudson refused bail and set the matter to return to court in February.
