Amy Sarkis: Beautician caught working as Bondi dial-a-dealer after cocaine found stashed in tampon case

A 24-year-old Fairfield woman working at a laser clinic was sentenced to a community jail sentence after being caught in Bondi with eight bags of cocaine and wads of $50 cash.

A well-groomed Western Sydney woman claimed she was forced to sell drugs on the streets of Bondi Beach when she was discovered with multiple bags of cocaine and wads of cash by police.

Amy Sarkis, 24, was sentenced for supplying cocaine and dealing with the proceeds of crime at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.

According to facts tendered to court, plain clothes police officers on patrol near glamorous nightspot Ravesis saw a man quickly enter and leave a silver Mercedes about 7pm on June 17.

Police immediately suspected a drug transaction had taken place and pursued the car.

Police stopped the man and found four bags of cocaine weighing 2.2g. The man told them he gave Sarkis $750 in $50 notes in exchange for the drugs.

Police then stopped Sarkis in her car, where they found $1000 in $50 notes in the centre console and eight clear resealable bags of cocaine weighing 5g in a black tampon box.

Sarkis’s lawyer Mustafa Agar told the court the young woman had been driven to dealing drugs out of desperation when her parents used the family’s savings to fly overseas.

Still, Mr Agar acknowledged “no excuse would have been acceptable” to the court for the offence.

“She’s not saying she had no other option,” Mr Agar said. “She’s taking the easiest way out and she understands it was not the correct option.”

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge warned if Sarkis was unable to convince the court of her remorse she would go to jail, telling the court she did not think the woman showed “one scintilla of remorse – except that she got caught.”

The facts state the young woman was on bail for another matter at the time which had conditions that she not enter the eastern suburbs or have more than one mobile phone.

Sarkis told the court she hadn’t told her parents she was arrested while they were overseas because she was “so ashamed with myself.”

“I didn’t even think; I was so stressed.” she said.

But Magistrate Milledge remained unconvinced the young woman had accepted responsibility for her actions, calling an apology letter by Sarkis “completely insincere.”

“You ought to be ashamed of yourself,” the magistrate said.

“I don’t buy one bit of what you’ve told your lawyers. You had your little drugs in your tampon box.

“You knew exactly what you were doing.”

Magistrate Milledge convicted Sarkis for supplying cocaine and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

But the magistrate told the court the young woman’s age warranted a sentence below full-time jail and sentenced Sarkey to an 18-month intensive corrections order, which is a custodial sentence to be served in the community.

Magistrate Milledge told Sarkis if she appeared again at court she would face a custodial sentence.

“You commit another offence, you won’t have anywhere to go because you’ll be going to jail.
