A senior NSW Police officer and representative rugby league player allegedly dealt steroids with raids uncovering more than $10,000 in dirty cash.
Brayden James Sharrock avoided the media for nearly two hours before his case was mentioned for the first time in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old senior constable, who has represented the Australian Police Rugby League team and is a well-known figure in Group 9, is charged with three counts of supplying prohibited drugs and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime. He is yet to enter a plea to the charges.
According to a NSW Police spokesperson, Sharrock caught the attention of the Professional Standards Command in September with officers investigating the alleged supply of prohibited drugs.
“Following extensive inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a home in Wagga Wagga [on Thursday, September 19] where a number of items were seized for forensic examination,” the spokesperson said.
Documents tendered in court state police seized $12,950 which they allege is proceeds of crime.
Sharrock, who is a part of the vast Southern Region command, was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station before being granted police bail.
Court documents state the first charge relates to the alleged supply of testosterone between August 3 and September 3.
The second charge is connected to alleged dealing of anabolic steroids between August 18 and September 18 while the third drug charge, the alleged supply of boldenone, is associated with September 18.
The case was mentioned briefly before Magistrate Gareth Christofi where it was adjourned until January.
Mr Christofi continued Sharrock’s bail and allowed him not to return to court on the next occasion as long as he is legally represented.
The prop forward played the 2024 season with Group 9 powerhouse the Wagga Kangaroos, but was not part of the side which lost the grand final to the Young Cherrypickers 16-12 three days after he was arrested.
Sharrock’s occupation and footballing prowess has seen him represent Australia in international matches including against New Zealand. He has also played for NSW Country Police and the NSW Police side in curtain-raiser matches for State of Origin.
Sharrock is suspended with pay and his employment status is under review.
