A female police officer has been rushed to hospital after allegedly being stabbed and bashed when she tried to stop a man riding a bike without a helmet in a regional NSW town.

A country female police officer has been rushed to hospital after suffering multiple injuries when she was allegedly bashed and stabbed several times by a male cyclist she had attempted to pull over for not wearing a helmet.
The constable, aged in her mid-20s, was listed as being in a stable condition with injuries to her head, arm, abdomen and fingers following the allegedly attack on Cutler Ave in Kooringal, a suburb of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina, about 2pm on Friday.
Police said the officer had attempted to stop a man riding a bike without a helmet before she was allegedly punched multiple times in the head and stabbed in the arm and abdomen with what was believed to be a small screwdriver.
She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in a stable condition.
The officer, who was attached to the Southern Region Enforcement Squad based at Wagga Wagga, also being checked for suspected fractures to her fingers and a head injury.
A 31-year-old man was immediately arrested and has been taken to Wagga Wagga police station.
