A Riverina man accused of sexually abusing a young girl and buying her gifts for years has faced court for the first time since his release on bail.

A Riverina man who allegedly bought gifts for a nine-year-old girl and sexually abused her for two years has faced court for the first time since his release on bail.

The Riverina Child Abuse Unit swooped on Peter Cho Labang, 44, following an investigation into child abuse allegations which began in February this year.

Police will allege the Tolland man sexually touched a young girl and bought her gifts on multiple occasions between January 2019 and February this year.

He was charged in July with two counts of intentionally sexually touching a child under 10, four counts of intentionally sexually touching a child and one count of grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity.

Mr Labang was refused bail by police but it was subsequently granted at Wagga Local Court on July 15 to return to court on August 3.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and the matter was adjourned to return to the same court on September 15.

As part of his bail conditions Labang is require to reside at a Wagga address, not to speak to the complainant except through a lawyer, and be of good behaviour.

Mr Labang is also subject to an interim apprehended violence order for the young complainants protection.
