Albury: Man accused of setting motel on fire to face court

A man police allege set a motel alight in a regional NSW town will face court on Tuesday.

Police have charged a man after a motel in a regional NSW town was set on fire.

On Monday, emergency services were called to a motel on Wagga Rd, Lavington following reports of a fire.

On arrival, officers attached to the Murray River Police District discovered a motel unit was ablaze.

The fire was promptly extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW and fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Police established a crime scene and immediately launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Following inquiries and investigations, police arrested a 29-year-old man at a residence in Lavington.

The man was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with intimidation (DV), malicious damage (DV), break and enter commit serious indictable offence (DV), destroying property with intention of endangering life (DV) and three counts of damage property by fire.

He was refused bail and will appear before the Albury Local Court on August 1.
