Christmas has come early for local skate and bike enthusiasts as a new pump track has officially opened to the public.

Located behind the Wagga Visitor Information Centre, the new track is designed for the young and young at heart to flip, spin and skate to their heart’s desire.

The 36-metre long surface can be ridden by all ages and all abilities on bikes, skateboards and skates.

The $40,000 instalment aims to encourage participation and physical activity for people of all ages.

Wagga resident Henry Wright said the new track was a great addition to the CBD and had brought his bike down for a spin after testing out his skateboard on the track earlier in the week.

“I had been hoping Wagga would get one of these tracks for some time,” Mr Wright said.

“There‘s one down the coast that I use a fair bit whenever I visit.

“So, it‘s great to see it is Wagga’s turn to get a pump track.”

The new development was made possible by a partnership between Wagga City Council and a grant from the Department Planning Industry and Environment.

Council’s visitor economy and events coordinator Fiona Hamilton hinted locals could expect more fun activation's across the city in the near future as part of a new pilot project.

“The … project is a partnership between NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and six councils across NSW, with Wagga Wagga the only regional city included in the pilot project,” Ms Hamilton said.

“The aim is to make public spaces more vibrant and active through temporary and semi-permanent change,” she said.

The track is free to use and open to the public daily.
