A Wagga man who was already facing drug and weapon charges has fronted court again accused of assaulting a woman in a bathroom.

Reece Kerry Egan, 29, of Mount Austin, appeared via video link in Wagga Local Court on Monday when he pleaded not guilty to common assault and guilty to destroy property.

Egan had been on bail for supplying an indictable quantity of drug and having a knife in a public place — both of which he pleaded not guilty to.

Today, the court heard Egan allegedly assaulted the woman while they were in a bathroom.

Court documents state Egan also destroyed the windscreen of a sedan on the morning of February 16 in Mount Austin.

He is also accused of supplying four bags of ice totalling 22.5 grams and having a 15cm knife at Fernleigh Road in December last year.

In court, defence solicitor Aakash Prasad said there was a case for self defence in relation to the assault charge.

During the bail hearing, Mr Prasad said his client had a “relatively bad upbringing” and that he had strong community ties.

He also said that while the fresh matters were serious, his client had limited offending between 2015 and 2019.

“Which demonstrates him being a functioning member of society,” Mr Prasad said.

Police prosecutor Priscilla Jones said both sets of matters were “intertwined insofar as drug related and domestic violence issues”.

Ms Jones said the accused breached a good behaviour bond to which he was subjected and that he had a record of violence.

“Victim protection is our main aspect here,” Ms Jones said.

During the hearing today, Egan interrupted proceedings multiple times.

Magistrate Christopher Halburd granted Egan bail with various conditions.

He will front court again on February 26 for hearing in relation to the first set of charges.

He is also scheduled for a May 27 appearance in relation to the fresh charges and an apprehended violence order against him.
