Kevin Williams allegedly stole two cars before punching an officer

A Griffith man allegedly punched a police officer in the face while trying to escape police through a window during his arrest.

Kevin John Williams has fronted court accused of stealing two cars and a bank card before allegedly punching a police officer in the face.

Williams was arrested at a Griffith home after allegedly stealing a blue Mazda CX-3 from a home on Marcus Street, Griffith, in September and then allegedly stealing a Mitsubishi Triton ute from a Griffith Council depot before dumping it in bushland nearby in October.

Police will also allege Williams used a bank card stolen from one of the vehicles for a number of his own personal transactions.

During his arrest, he allegedly tried to escape police through a window before he punched a male police officer in the face.

Williams was taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, two counts of drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, resist officer in execution of duty and assault police officer in execution of duty.

He did not apply for bail at Wagga Local Court on Monday and remains in police custody.

The arrest comes as a 27-year-old woman remains before the courts after police arrested and charged her in relation to the theft of the ute on October 30.

Both officers sustained minor injuries as a result and did not require hospital treatment.
