An 11-month-old baby has emerged from a horror crash, which killed the driver, with only minuor injures.

Emergency services were called to the Cobb Highway, 12km south of Booligal, about 6.30pm on Thursday, after reports a car had rolled in a crash.

Police believe the driver of the Mitsubishi Triton, which was also carrying a 11-month-old child, veered off the road before rolling several times.

The 56-year-old man died at the scene while the child was taken to Griffith Hospital with minor injuries.

Griffith chief Inspector John Wadsworth said investigations into what caused the crash were continuing.

“Although the cause of death is still under investigation, the man lived in the area and would have known the roads well,” Inspector Wadsworth said.

“This really proves people need to remain vigilant when driving on roads they may take every day as accidents can still happen.

“It is very fortunate the child only suffered mild injuries and is in a good condition.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Anyone with information about the crash, or has dash-cam vision, is urged to called Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
