Brodie Stoll jailed for police pursuit in stolen car

A young man has led police on a high speed chase through Wagga even after he busted a tyre driving up a footpath on Australia Day. What he did next is even more bizarre.

A young man who used a stolen car to lead police on a wild chase through the Wagga CBD before charging into a strangers house has been sent to prison.

Brodie Stoll, 22, was sentenced in Wagga Local Court on Tuesday, after he was charged with knowingly drive a stolen conveyance, police pursuit not stop dangerous driving, using class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed, drive while disqualified, enter enclosed lands without permission and stalk or intimidate intending to cause mental or physical harm.

Court documents reveal at around 7pm on January 26, police saw Stoll driving a stolen Mazda CX3 along Tobruk St Ashmont.

After he refused to pull over, police initiated a pursuit – the third of the stolen car within a number a days.

Stoll sped through the streets of Ashmont until he reached the Olympic Highway where he reached speeds of 130km/h in 80km/h zone.

He then turned onto Red Hill Road driving 100km/h before breaking harshly on Yentoo Drive and sliding across the road’s intersection and onto the gutter.

The car then continued to drive onto a busy footpath.

“Police are aware that at the time of night, people are normally walking or running along this footpath and police terminated the pursuit,” court documents state.

But Stoll continued to drive the damaged car and blew a front tyre after mounting a gutter for a second time and continued along the footpath.

Police approached the vehicle as it began to stop when passengers and Stoll jumped out and ran.

Police lost sight of Stoll as he broke through a nearby fence and pushed his way through a home.

“I need you to help me,” he told the stranger as he charged through the house and helped himself to water in the kitchen.

The victim continued to tell Stoll to leave the home but would not.

Stoll then used the victim’s phone to call someone to pick him up.

He then asked for a shirt which the occupant handed over and Stoll left the house.

Once he was gone, the victim called police, who took a DNA sample from the home which later matched Stoll.

The court heard Stoll’s mother had died in a car accident and he had a deprived upbringing.

The court also heard Stoll had symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder and had a long criminal history.

Magistrate Chris Halburd told the court it was a very sad sentencing exercise.

“ … he placed other citizens at grave risk of injury or death,” Magistrate Halburd told the court.

“Another example of a dangerous police pursuit in the streets of Wagga.

“A clear message needs to be sent,” he said.

Stoll was sentenced to 24 months in prison with a 14 month non-parole period.

He will be eligible for release on December 23, 2021.
