A once-aspiring rugby league player was caught dealing cocaine at pubs all over the NSW south coast and once while he detailed a customer’s car after an exhaustive six-month police investigation.
Former Shellharbour Shark and Nowra-Bomaderry Jet Zac Kershaw appeared in Nowra Local Court on Monday charged with indictable cocaine supply and prohibited drug possession.
Agreed police facts tendered to the court reveal Kershaw was charged in June 2021 after police intercepted a string of incriminating messages and phone calls revealing his dealing activities over six months.
Police captured evidence of Kershaw making various deals with clients who would meet him at the Archer Hotel in East Nowra and other south coast venues, before they swooped in June as he drove away from his upline supplier’s St Georges Basin home armed with an ounce of cocaine to sell on.
A screenshot obtained from Kershaw’s phone by investigators from Strike Force Happ dated 10.10pm February 13 2021 details a conversation on the encrypted messaging app Signal between the accused and another man.
Kershaw said to the man, “It’s in my shoe bra,” before telling him, “[it’s] 3 hunge f*** ya”, the police facts state.
Police estimate the cost of one gram of cocaine to be worth $300, and allege that Kershaw had set the Signal app to automatically delete any messages after 30 minutes.
Throughout March 2021, police intercepted multiple calls and messages from a range of services including Signal, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Instagram.
During that time, agreed police facts reveal Kershaw was involved in numerous drug deals, including the arrangement of meetings and payments.
In one case involving a $250 payment, a man messaged Kershaw to inform him he could make a cash withdrawal from an ATM via a unique cash code within three hours.
On June 18 last year after Kershaw was arrested leaving his upline supplier’s home with an ounce of cocaine, police searched Kershaw’s Bowerbird St residence in South Nowra.
Investigators subsequently located in the ensuite of the main bedroom a small medication case containing 2mg of alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax.
Kershaw stated the alprazolam tablets were to help with sleep.
Other items were seized during the search including digital scales coated with white power residue, a large number of small plastic resealable bags, and creatine powder which is a common cutting agent in the distribution of cocaine.
Kershaw was initially charged with more than a dozen offences which were subsequently withdrawn and he pleaded guilty to the two remaining charges.
He will be sentenced at Nowra Local Court by Magistrate Lisa Viney on March 22.
