Vinnie Italia, Robert Franco, Hells Angels: OMCG member and associate front court

A Hells Angels bikie and an associate have been charged over an alleged assault of a South Coast man so badly it has left him in hospital for almost two months.

A Hells Angels member and a Sanctuary Point associate, who police allege detained a man for money, have been refused bail.

Police allege Vinnie Italia, 31, and Robert Franco, 24, seriously assaulted a 28-year-old Basin View man when they allegedly detained him to get money from the alleged victim’s bank account.

OMCG member Italia, of Nowra, was charged with one count of take or detain in company with intent to get an advantage occasioning actual bodily harm.

In documents tendered to the court, police allege Italia and Franco assaulted a Basin View man on May 3, with the intention of forcing him to transfer money to them.

The man was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital in a critical condition, before being flown to a hospital in Sydney with serious head injuries. He remains in hospital and is currently undergoing rehabilitation for his injuries.

Franco was charged with one count of take or detain in company with intent to get an advantage occasioning actual bodily harm, sexual intercourse without consent and threaten or cause injury or harm to prevent information to police.

In documents tendered to the court, police allege the Sanctuary Point man raped a woman in the hours after the assault and threatened the alleged victim into not giving police information about who was involved in detaining and seriously assaulting the Basin View man.

Defence solicitor Brett Ford did not apply for bail on behalf of Italia at Nowra Local Court on Thursday and Magistrate David Williams formally refused it.

Franco’s defence solicitor Matt Kwan did not apply for bail of which was formally refused by Magistrate Williams. He is expected to apply for bail on Friday.

Italia will also appear on July 24, where other unrelated charges of dealing with property proceeds of crime and two driving matters will be mentioned.
