Four prison inmates have been charged after allegedly offering a guard cash to smuggle in contraband, including at least one mobile phone, to the jail.

In March 2020, detectives from the Corrective Services Investigation Unit established Strike Force Draymar to investigate activity by a male NSW Corrective Services employee.

Police have charged South Coast Correctional Centre inmates Edward Nassr, Julal Vural, Ahmad Alameddine and Robert Sadek and the matters were heard in at Nowra Local Court on Monday.

Police allege Nassr and Sadek offered to pay the same guard almost $10,000 cash over two occasions between April 2019 and April 2020 as a reward for smuggling in contraband to the prison. Court documents also allege Alameddine offered the same corrective services officer $5000 in cash on April 16.

According to documents tendered to the court, police allege all four were acting in a criminal group.

Nassr, 42, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of corruptly give or offer agent a benefit and a single count of knowingly direct criminal group assist crime. Registrar Craig Cockburn adjourned his case until August 24.
