Two men alleged to be members of the Comanchero outlaw bikie gang were arrested on the south coast yesterday after a statewide police operation saw properties in Wrights Beach, Worrigee, North Nowra, Warrawong, and Wollongong being raided.
Officers from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad and Australian Federal Police descended on the usually quiet area of Wrights Beach, near the popular tourist area of Jervis Bay, at about 6am on May 17.
Blake Gennison, 27, was arrested during the raid and is believed to a Sergeant at Arms of the South Coast chapter of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang, according to police. The second man, Joshua Elliott, 26, is believed to be an associate with the same group.
Police allege that each man supplied more than 2kg of MDMA and more than 700g of cocaine using the using the ‘ANOM’ application, a law enforcement software that allows police to view live chats, between September 2020 and June 2021
The two men were arrested at the scene and refused bail to appear before the Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, where they were formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on July 12.
The charges come as police across Sydney and south NSW target organised crime operation as part of Taskforce Erebus.
The inter-agency operation was set up by NSW Police last week to investigate a spate of recent murders and other serious organised crime, in partnership with the NSW Crime Commission, Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, and the AFP.
At least seven individuals have so far been arrested in operations across the state, including in Brighton-Le-Sands, Blacktown, and Londonderry, with at least one man alleged to also have been a member of the Comancheros.
As part of the operation, police said a number of other members and associates of the south coast chapter were spoken with and served consorting bans.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb said operational activity under Taskforce Erebus, which involves an additional 60 full-time investigators, as well as detectives and analysts, is well underway.
“We established Taskforce Erebus earlier this week in response to the recent violence which has plagued southwest Sydney and it was made clear arrests would swiftly follow,” Commissioner Webb said.
“This morning, we have executed a number search warrants and as a result, seized numerous firearms and arrested seven people for a range of serious offences – all allegedly members or associates of (outlaw motorcycle gangs).
“I want the community to be reassured operations under Erebus have a long way to go, and we will inflict further damage on these criminal networks in the days and weeks to come.”
