Emergency crews have battled to contain a noxious emergency after a truck crash caused thousands of litres of sewage to spill onto the road side, threatening a nearby creek.
At least 5000 litres of human waste had already been discharged when Fire and Rescue NSW arrived at the crash site on the Princes Highway at around 10.30am on Thursday.
The truck trailer, which was transporting the sewage, had overturned and was stranded on the roadside around 1km south of Cobargo when the multi-agency clean-up crew arrived.
Both NSW police and ambulance services were called in to assist, as well as the NSW RFS.
Hazardous materials specialists from FRNSW were dispatched to contain the spill and to prevent contaminants from entering a nearby creek.
The NSW Environmental Protection Authority was notified of the spill, according to a statement.
