NSW Police are remembering one of their own as “dedicated and extremely well-regarded” after the father, partner and “superhero” was tragically killed in a horror car crash on the state’s south coast.
Senior constable Carl Wilkinson died when a truck collided with his ute on the Princes Hwy outside East Lynne, north of Maidens Rd on Wednesday afternoon.
The 37-year-old died at the scene.
The truck driver, aged 57, was taken to the Batemans Bay Hospital for mandatory testing.
No charges have been laid.
Mr Wilkinson had just moved to Batemans Bay with his partner, Madeleine Cox, and their three children.
Ms Cox took to social media to share her heartbreak at the loss of her partner, describing him as “my love, my mate, my angel, our superhero”.
“I lost my partner, the love of my life I was lucky enough to meet, and the father of our three beautiful baby boys,” she wrote.
Ms Cox revealed Mr Wilkinson had just donated his guitar to their local church before moving, asking if anyone knew the whereabouts of it so she could have it back as a way to remember her best friend.
“I am no good at playing but he loved when I played only for him, he thought my voice was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard – I would strongly disagree,” she said.
“But please I would love to find this so I can play to him once more Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. I will pay anything for it.”
Meanwhile, NSW Police are remembering their own as great police officer, father and partner.
“Carl joined the South Coast Police District team in 2017 and spent time in General Duties, the Proactive Crime Team and Criminal Investigation as part of the Batemans Bay Detectives office,” a NSW Police spokesman said.
“[He was] an intelligent, diligent and very likeable man who was passionate about being a police officer and keeping the community safe.
“A life of such promise left unfinished. Thank you for your service.”
Nearly one week since the tragedy, an online crowd-funding page has been set up to support Mr Wilkinson’s partner and three boys.
In just a few days, more than $27,000 has been raised.
Others online have remembered the south coast police officer as an “absolute gentleman”.
“He was just a down to earth great bloke, taken way too early,” one said.
“My condolences to Maddie and the boys. What a tragedy and at this time of the year,” another said.
