An Eden man who has been charged with stabbing his stepfather during an argument, leaving him fighting for his life, has faced court.
Police allege Trevor Fleet, 35, and his 64-year-old stepfather got into a physical altercation on August 3 at his stepfather’s home before Fleet stabbed him in the stomach with a kitchen knife.
So serious were the man’s injuries, he was flown to Canberra Hospital. Wearing prison greens, Fleet faced Bega Local Court via audio video link from Sydney‘s Silverwater Correctional Complex on October 27, and is yet to enter a plea to the charge of reckless wounding.
“We’re going to have a lot of work to do,” Fleet’s lawyer from the Aboriginal Legal Service, John Edmunds, told his client.
Fleet has been held in custody since his arrest on August 3.
The court heard Fleet, a partial paraplegic, had been without his wheelchair and medication for weeks after his arrest.
Magistrate Doug Dick adjourned the matter to Bega Local Court on December 15.
