Tom Brockley: Victorian student charged in alleged Eden drug bust

A skydiving trip to a Far South Coast town has landed a Victorian student in hot water after being charged with drug supply and possession.

A Victorian student has landed himself in court after a skydiving trip to a popular Far South Coast town came crashing down, with the man being charged with drug supply.

Tom Brockley appeared before Batemans Bay Local Court on May 16, charged with both possessing and supplying a prohibited drug, as well as dealing with the proceeds of crime.

The RMIT student and Melbourne labourer was allegedly caught with 10 different substances on a trip to Eden, the police prosecutor told Magistrate Doug Dick.

So far, only two of the substances have been analysed, the prosecutor stated, with the material allegedly being forwarded to Batemans Bay for further analysis.

“We’re only scratching the surface,” Magistrate Dick told Brockley.

“If we keep scratching away, we’re going to get a full picture about what charges you are facing.”

The police prosecutor said she was unsure how long the analysis would take, or whether it would stay in Batemans Bay or be moved to Nowra.

Brockley first appeared before Wollongong Local Court on Saturday where he was granted bail, with a temporary address listed in Moruya.

Brockley told Magistrate Dick he worked and studied six days a week in Victoria, and was due back at work the following day, triggering a discussion over his bail conditions.

Magistrate Dick discussed with Brockley’s defence lawyer and the police prosecutor whether the matter should remain in Batemans Bay, or be transferred to Bega Local Court.

In lieu of a decision, Magistrate Dick ordered Brockley to return to the court on Thursday to supply a bail application, including evidence of his work and study in Victoria.

Magistrate Dick also told the court Brockley had previously been before a Victorian court for a drugs charge.

A fourth charge of dealing with property proceeds of crime under $100,000 was also removed.
