A man charged with allegedly possessing a cache of unregistered firearms, ammo and a crossbow has pleaded not guilty as his lawyer requests access to police footage.
Andrew Murphy was charged with 15 seperate firearm and driving offences after a routine traffic stop near the busy tourist town of Batemans Bay on May 14.
Officers from the South Coast Police District stopped an unregistered Holden Commodore on the Princes Hwy, North Batemans Bay at about 10.30pm.
During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly seized a black suitcase containing three shortened firearms, as well as ammunition.
The weapons allegedly seized include a shortened .22 rifle, a shortened 12-gauge shotgun, and a smaller gauge shortened shotgun. A crossbow and a machete were also seized.
Murphy was arrested at the scene and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station.
The 40-year-old’s lawyer told the Batemans Bay Local Court on May 16 that he would be seeking a four-week adjournment to procure footage from police.
The video sought by the defence includes that of the search, any dash-cam footage from the stop, as well as any body-worn footage.
Murphy will remain behind bars after he was refused bail by Wollongong Local Court on Saturday, and did not appear at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday.
He will return to the court on July 4.
Murphy is charged with multiple offences, including:
Using an unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on the road
Using a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order
Three counts of possessing a shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority
Three counts of possessing an unregistered firearm – prohibited firearm
Three counts of a firearm found at premises – subject to prohibition order
Possessing ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
Using an uninsured motor vehicle
Using a vehicle on road or road related area with motor vehicle tax not paid
Driving a motor vehicle during a disqualification period
