The identity of a man and woman charged in the murder of beloved Nowra teen Taj Hart can be exclusively revealed after a court order suppressing the publication of their names was overturned.
Katie Walmsley, 37, and Jayden Walmsey-Hume, 18, were arrested on Sydney’s northern beaches in April after 18-year-old Hart was killed in a hit and run on Old Southern Rd, Nowra in February.
Police said the pair are “known to each other”, and are believed to reside in Jervis Bay.
They were refused bail at Manly Court on April 8, where a solicitor for the accused applied for a non-publication order of their names on the basis that the man had just recently turned 18 years old.
That order was revoked at Nowra Local Court on May 25 following a submission by lawyers representing The Daily Telegraph’s parent company, Nationwide News.
The arrest came after a months-long investigation by officers from Strike Force Altos, a joint operation between the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and investigators from the South Coast Police District set up to investigate Mr Hart’s death.
In March, officers identified and seized a white Mitsubishi Triton utility alleged to have been involved in the incident.
Dashcam footage of the seized ute captured shortly before the fatal collision was released by police in the hope members of the public could identify the driver.
The pair will appear before Nowra Local Court on June 7.
