A teenage boy is being remembered for his kind-hearted nature after he was killed in a hit-and-run on the state’s south coast.
Taj Hart, 18, tragically died at Shoalhaven Hospital on Thursday night, after he was struck by a vehicle on Old Southern Rd at South Nowra.
Emergency services received reports a male had been hit by a ute at 3pm on Thursday, before the ute continued north towards Greenwell Point Rd.
Taj was assisted at the scene by passing motorists, until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. He was taken to Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital but sadly died a short time later.
Detectives from South Coast Police District attended and set up a crime scene, and have since launched an investigation into the incident.
Police have since been told a white Mitsubishi Triton utility had been seen driving towards Taj immediately before he was found injured.
His older brother Tyson told The Saturday Telegraph Taj was walking to a friend’s place when he was hit by the ute.
“He was just walking to his good mate’s place like he does every day,” Tyson said.
“He would walk the same way every day around the same time.”
Tyson and his family have received an outpouring of support following Taj’s death, with the 18-year-old well-known in the community.
“He was kind-hearted, he had so many friends and knew so many people in this town,” Tyson said.
Tyson said his family was shattered by the fact someone had left his brother on the side of the road knowing how badly he’d been injured.
“It’s horrific … (We will do) anything that helps bring the people in (to police) that stole my little brother from us.”
Police have urged anyone with information or dashcam footage from around the same time in the South Nowra area to contact Crime Stoppers.
