A man who allegedly firebombed a far south coast school, causing more than $160,000 worth of damage, has been arrested and refused bail.
Steele Wilson, 58, faced the Batemans Bay Local Court on Thursday after allegedly throwing three fire molotov cocktails at the Eden Marine High School in the Bega Valley.
Police allege the firebombing of the school occurred in the early hours of Wednesday last week.
Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) were called to the scene at 4am, where they extinguished multiple fires before police arrived.
The police at the scene allegedly discovered three used molotov cocktails on the school grounds.
The estimated damage is believed to be more than $160,000.
Eden Marine High School was closed for the day while FRNSW and police conducted investigations.
On Wednesday afternoon, one week after the alleged attack on the school, police executed a search warrant at a property in Emblem St, Eden where Wilson was arrested.
He was taken to the Eden Police Station and charged with break and enter to commit serious indictable offence and three counts of malicious damage by fire and explosive.
Wilson – who faced the Batemans Bay Local Court on Thursday from custody – is yet to enter pleas. He did not apply for bail.
Ian Lord represented Wilson before Magistrate Doug Dick with the case adjourned to March 11 at the Bega Local Court.
