The teenager who allegedly led police on a pursuit from one end of the Shoalhaven to the other has been refused bail, charged with a string of serious offences after the dog squad and PolAir were called in to assist in the alleged chase.

Shaun Thorpe is accused of failing to stop after police attempted to stop him on the Princes Highway at Berry shortly after 11am on Tuesday.

The car continued south on the highway, only stopping once police deployed road spikes more than 100 kilometres away.

Shaun Thorpe appeared in Batemans Bay Court on Wednesday, facing 10 charges over an alleged pursuit from one end of the Shoalhaven to the other.

The 19-year-old allegedly drove through a contraflow road work zone south of Ulladulla, which is signposted 40km/h, without stopping and going against oncoming traffic.

Mr Thorpe, of Warilla, allegedly drove on the inside of traffic to get through the work zone.

According to police, he hit the road spikes at East Lynne, just north of Tomboye Road, before Mr Thorpe allegedly fled on foot into nearby bushland.

With the help of PolAir and the dog squad, he was located at about 2pm, “several hundred metres” west of the highway, police allege.

Mr Thorpe spent the night at Batemans Bay Hospital before being taken into custody at Batemans Bay police station and being charged with 10 offences on Wednesday.

He is facing allegations of two counts of driving a conveyance without consent, two counts of driving while disqualified, three counts of possessing a prohibited drug, two counts of police pursuit and driving recklessly, and possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit.

Appearing before Registrar Ingrid O’Neill in Batemans Bay Local Court late on Wednesday, Mr Thorpe’s lawyer did not apply for his release and bail was denied.

He will reappear in court next month.
