A Nowra pair charged with a daylight robbery in a busy city street have been granted bail by a South Coast court, and were ordered to stay away from the alleged victim’s address.
Tahlia Mook, 31, and Brett Pender, 29, were charged with aggravated robbery after being apprehended by South Coast police on March 24.
The pair is accused of robbing a man “in daylight hours, at a busy road, and in full view of the public”, taking a Jack Daniels cap and a dark-blue Everlast backpack, according to police documents.
The two are further accused of taking a pair of BMW car keys contained in the bag, and at the time of the robbery, intentionally or recklessly inflicted bodily harm on the victim.
Police claim the alleged offence was “violent, unprovoked, and caused significant harm to the victim.
“If convicted, the accused would serve lengthy terms of imprisonment.”
According to the bail conditions report, both Mook and Pender have been previously charged with violence offences, with Mook currently serving a Community Corrections Order.
Pender has had two warrants issued on him relating to charges in 2015 and 2018.
While the victim provided a statement to police with his injuries being recorded, police say that witnesses to the alleged incident have been unwilling to provide statements.
“Victim statement alone lessons prosecution case and successful prosecution may prove difficult,” the police documents state.
The pair will reappear before the Nowra Local Court on July 12 for charge certification.
On May 31, Magistrate Lisa Viney agreed for Mook’s bail address to be altered after she entered into temporary accommodation.
