Nowra: Daniel Moore pleads guilty to driving car with alcohol and drugs in system

Highway patrol officers clocked a P-plater barreling down the highway at 175km/h and immediately pulled him over. They soon realised the speed limit was not the only law he was breaking.

A P-plater was nabbed speeding down the Princes Hwy with a disqualified licence only for police to discover he had both alcohol and cocaine in his system.

Daniel Moore from Old Erowal Bay wound up in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded guilty to driving a car while disqualified, driving with special range PCA, driving with an illicit drug in oral fluid and exceeding speed limit by more than 45km/h.

Police documents tendered to the court reveal the 20-year-old sped down the highway past Falls Creek after downing five Great Northern cans and indulging in cocaine the day before.

Highway patrol watched as the P-plater sped in his Ford Falcon on the stretch of road outside Nowra, where they clocked him going 175km/h in the 100 zone.

The officers pulled the car over immediately, before approaching the vehicle, where they discovered Moore’s licence was disqualified.

Daniel Moore, 20, will be sentenced in Nowra Local Court next month.

“The accused was asked to produce his licence, which he did not do, indicating he did not currently hold a licence,” agreed facts state.

Moore was subjected to a breath test, which returned a positive reading of 0.027. He was then taken to the Nowra Police Station, where he was also subjected to an oral fluid test, which detected a positive reading of cocaine.

The young man revealed to police he had taken the drug at “my house, yesterday”. In Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, Magistrate Lisa Viney said the charges were “very serious”.

“Driving during a disqualification is bad, but doing it after drinking is worse,” she said.

Moore’s lawyer, Cynthia Markareh, asked sentencing on the matter be adjourned to allow Moore to complete the traffic offenders program; a suggestion which Ms Viney did not oppose.

Moore will return to Nowra Local Court on August 8 for sentencing.
