A recently constructed million-dollar playground on the NSW south coast is set to be upgraded with an 8m slide after a regional council voted unanimously to update the equipment.

Narooma – south of Batemans Bay – saw the recent construction of the $1.4m playground late last year, with the park now set to be upgraded to include the 8m slide originally proposed in the initial plans submitted to the Eurobodalla Council.

The construction of the slide for the massive playground at Discovery Holiday Parks Narooma Beach – at 7323 Princes Hwy – passed unanimously, with all nine councillors voting in its favour.

Planning documents reveal the playground will includes an 11m long playground structure, 2.86m high swing set, 30m long flying fox, 6.7m high rock climbing wall and the 8m slide structure will now be added to the equipment.

Discovery Holiday Parks owner G’day Group said the playground construction was part of a major plan to upgrade all their parks.

G’day Group chief investment officer Amanda Baldwin told The South Coast News that the Narooma’s playground’s lofty price tag was due to its size.

“The exciting new adventure playground at Discovery Parks – Narooma Beach is part of a more than $5m investment in the property since it was acquired by G’day Group 12 months ago,” she said.

“Featuring a giant slide and a climbing tower, the coastal themed playground will be a real point of difference for the park and a major drawcard for families, which will support the continued growth of Narooma’s visitor economy.”

While the playground was constructed and the slide will be coming to the holiday park, the equipment will be available for the wider Narooma community.

The new park has been welcomed by Narooma residents who agreed the town majorly lacked of parks for kids.

“How good to see a playground like this coming to our area,” Benjamin Smith said in the community submissions section of the DA.

“The town needs more playgrounds, so this is just fantastic.”

Noah Wilson also submitted the need for playgrounds in Narooma.

“Will be the perfect spot for the kids to go and play, how good and big,” he said.

“We’re currently lacking in playgrounds, so this is very exciting.”

The slide is expected to open in the coming week.
