Must-do NSW south coast travel experiences

After withstanding the summer’s bushfires, flooding and then the coronavirus pandemic, now is the time for visitors to enjoy the state’s south coast.

A range of unforgettable south coast experiences are featured on Destination NSW’s new list of the top travel adventures to reboot tourism in 2020.

Supporting the latest phase of the NSW Government’s tourism recovery campaign, Now’s The Time to Love NSW, the south coast experiences feature on a list of 213 NSW travel adventures for visitors to do for the 213 days left in the year.

“The end of travel restrictions in NSW signals the start of an important new chapter for us to get out there and love NSW once again, to visit as many of the incredible towns, sights and experiences that the state offers,” said Destination NSW chief executive officer Steve Cox said.

The list depicts an array of diverse and unique experiences across the state, curated by the travel interest areas that have made NSW the number one Australian state for holiday-makers.

After withstanding the summer’s bushfires, flooding and then the coronavirus pandemic, now is the time for visitors to enjoy the state’s south coast after NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced lifting travel restrictions from June 1.

White Sands Walk, Jervis Bay

Walk on some of the purest sands in the world on the glorious White Sands Walk in Jervis Bay on the NSW South Coast.

Animal Encounters

From August to November, swim with the whales along the ‘Humpback Highway’ off the South Coast with Dive Jervis Bay or swim, snorkel and dive with seals in the crystal-clear waters off Montague Island near Narooma on the Far South Coast.

Immerse yourself among native wildlife

The Kangaroo Valley is home to not only its namesake marsupials, but also wallabies at Tallowa Dam. The Bendeela Camping and Picnic Area is also one of the best spots to see wombats in the wild.

Catch a haul on-board a charter boat

Whether you’re looking for game fishing, deep sea, reef rock, beach or estuary fishing, fishing in Bermagui offers plenty of variety and plenty of exotic fish. With the continental shelf only 20 kilometres offshore, take a charter from Bermagui Harbour to pristine waters to hook black marlin and yellowfin tuna.

The 100 Beach Challenge

Home to 170 kilometres of coastline, the Shoalhaven region is challenging visitors to explore their pristine beaches by taking the “100 Beach Challenge”. How many can you find?

Change your life on NSW’s South Coast with an immersive cultural tour run by Ngaran Ngaran Cultural Awareness at Narooma – learn about the Yuin people and dreamtime stories of Mount Gulaga.

Wine and dine, south coast style

A visit to the Shoalhaven region should include a visit to Cupitt’s Winery – a restaurant, bar, winery, brewery, fromagerie and wedding venue in Ulladulla. While you’re in the district visit Rick Stein’s signature restaurant at Bannisters in Mollymook for an extraordinary culinary experience in a beautiful setting on the headland.

Also, all along the coast, from the Shoalhaven River to estuaries near the Victorian border, you can enjoy f reshly shucked Sydney rock oysters straight from the farm gate.
