A development application for a multimillion-dollar shopping complex in a popular south coast suburb is currently in a community exhibition phase.
Arendol Pty Limited lodged plans with Eurobodalla Shire Council to build a $6.5m neighbourhood shopping centre fit with speciality stores, a supermarket and a medical centre in Sunshine Bay.
It is yet to be confirmed what brand would run the supermarket, however one speciality store would become a cafe, while the medical centre “(would) not involve medical treatment that leaves patients unconscious or non-ambulatory,” according to SET Consultants.
The proposed structure would be built around the existing daycare centre on Cunningham Crescent, including two car parks for the facility.
The main car park would have three disabled parking spots and 43 regular parking spaces.
Meanwhile the secondary smaller car park would feature one disabled parking spot and eight regular parking spaces.
The complex itself would be 5048.8 sqm, with the structure being split into the supermarket, medical centre and two specialty stores.
An entry canopy would take up 293 sqm of space, while one of the specialty stores would take up 264 sqm and the other would take up 184 sqm.
The main supermarket would take up 600sqm and the medical centre would take up 300sqm.
Seventeen trees would need to be removed for the facility.
The ‘Bushfire Assessment Report’ completed by SET Consultants stated the bushfire risk associated with the planned site was low.
“With the combination of the current vegetation (after the land is developed) and slope, the overall bushfire risk associated with the proposed development based on radiant heat exposure is low, with the foremost bushfire risk coming from the forested wetland located to the west of the site,” the report states.
The DA is currently on community exhibition on the Eurobodalla Shire Council website.
