A man has died after a tree branch fell on his head while playing golf on the NSW south coast this afternoon.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to Mollymook Golf Club on Golf Ave in Mollymook at 2.45pm on Thursday after reports a man, believed to be aged in his 50s, had been injured by a fallen tree or tree branch.

Two ambulance crews arrived on the scene to find the man with injuries. Paramedics performed CPR on the man however he died at the scene.

Paramedics later described the death as a “freak accident.”

“It appears the man was out for a day of golf with his mates when the freak incident occurred,” NSW Ambulance Inspector Faye Stockman said.

She said bystanders had attempted to resuscitate the man but he could not be saved because of the severity of his injuries.

“Unfortunately the man suffered a significant head injury and went into traumatic cardiac arrest and died at the scene.”

NSW Police said the man was on the course with three other players when the branch fell on his head.

The other men were uninjured and assisted the man before the arrival of emergency services, police said.

Officers from South Coast Police District have established a crime scene which will be examined by forensic police.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
