A man is accused of breaking into a number of Bega shops before police allegedly found him trying to hide behind a wall after allegedly smashing his way into Dan Murphy’s.

A man allegedly went on a robbery rampage, smashing up windows at a number of south coast business before police allegedly arrested hiding behind a wall near Dan Murphy’s.
Matthew John Scott, 32, from Bega did not apply for bail and it was formerly refused in Bega Local Court on Wednesday where he appeared on a number of charges including break and enter and steal, and two counts of break and enter with the intent to commit a serious indictable offence.
Police allege Scott smashed windows to break into the Bega post office at 11.45pm on November 9, stealing nine mobile phones valued at almost $1200.
They also allege over the next two days he also smashed windows in order to break into the town’s Target store and Dan Murphy’s bottle shop.
Police arrested Scott in the early hours of November 11 after being called to the Dan Murphy’s where they found him hiding behind a nearby wall.
Magistrate Doug Dick adjourned the matter to Batemans Bay Local Court on November 16.
