A night out drinking in a NSW south coast town ended with a violent stabbing after a pub brawl over a woman.
Keeda Meehan attacked his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend at Nowra’s Archer Hotel on the evening of December 1.
A set of agreed facts tendered to Nowra District Court state Meehan was at the hotel when he ran into the victim.
Stern words were shared between the two, before Meehan pushed the victim to the ground.
The facts state the verbal, turned physical, altercation arose due to animosity shared between the two over Meehan’s ex-girlfriend, who the victim was now dating.
Meehan pulled out a 12cm knife, swinging it at the man, before stabbing him in his right shoulder blade.
Agreed facts state that the force of the stab caused the knife handle to break off and the blade became lodged in the man’s back.
Meehan fled the scene, before police were called by the pub manager.
Meanwhile, a pub patron drove the victim to the Shoalhaven District Hospital.
His stab wound was assessed before he was transported to St George Hospital in Sydney where the knife was removed.
Agreed facts state the man needed 12 internal and external stitches.
Following investigations by the Southern Police District, Meehan was arrested, refused bail and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm on December 31, 2022.
He previously pleaded guilty to the charge.
Meehan was scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Christopher O’Brien on Wednesday, however defence barrister Jack Hibbard said final discussions with the crown were taking place.
Mr Hibbard submitted the case would likely be ready for judgement next week.
Judge O’Brien adjourned the case for sentencing to November 25.
