A major statewide blitz on the manufacturing of firearms has seen a Culburra Beach man accused of building a number of homemade guns and possessing silencers, tripwires and explosives.
Jarred Ayers, 52, was arrested by detectives as part of Strike Force Temarang on Wednesday.
The dedicated strike force closely scrutinises the importation and private manufacturing of firearms and firearm parts across the state.
In December 2024, police took notice of Ayers after it was reported he allegedly purchased and imported equipment suitable for the manufacture of firearms, a NSW Police spokesman said.
On Wednesday morning, strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – raided his Culburra Beach home and allegedly found 10 registered firearms, five unregistered firearms, 6000 rounds of ammunition, a trip wire, a knuckleduster, a small amount of drugs, over 100 fireworks, and evidence he was allegedly manufacturing firearm suppressors.
Ayers was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of manufacture prohibited weapon without a permit, possess unauthorised pistol, possess unauthorised firearm, possess more than three unregistered firearms, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, handle explosive without authorising licence, holder of Category A or B licence not have approved storage and two counts of possess prohibited drug.
Ayers appeared in the Nowra Local Court on Thursday before Magistrate Lisa Viney, where a bid for bail was refused.
The 52-year-old is yet to enter pleas.
Ms Viney adjourned the case to March 11, where Ayers will appear via video link from custody.
