A NSW South Coast teenager is alleged to have used an offensive weapon to avoid arrest moments after allegedly driving an uninsured car recklessly while his licence was suspended, a court has heard.

Sunshine Bay teenager, Tyler Loveridge, appeared in the Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, facing a list of charges following an alleged incident with police and his car on the evening of October 15 last year.

The 19-year-old was left with multiple charges, including use offensive weapon to avoid detention, drive recklessly at speed, use unregistered vehicle on road, use uninsured vehicle on road, drive while licence suspended and possess prohibited drug.

Loveridge is yet to enter pleas.

Documents tendered to the court state Loveridge was allegedly driving a Ford Falcon in Batehaven on that Tuesday night last year, when police patrolling the area saw him to be allegedly driving “recklessly”.

The court heard on Monday how the young man was taken to the Batemans Bay police station and charged.

In the Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, Loveridge’s lawyer, Wayne Boom, told magistrate Vivian Swain negotiations were ongoing between him and the DPP.

Ms Swain labelled the allegations “serious”, before adjourning the case by a number of weeks for charge certification.

Loveridge’s case will return to the Batemans Bay Local Court on March 10.
