An 80-year-old man accused of sexually touching a child will defend the allegation in December.

A hearing date was set for Hilton Cannon when his matter was briefly mentioned in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday

The Callala Bay man had previously pleaded not guilty to intentionally sexually touch a child between the age of 10 and 16.

Police allege in documents tendered to the court that Cannon sexually touched a 14-year-old child at Callala Bay in March this year.

The documents also state Cannon was arrested at his home three days after the alleged incident and was granted bail on March 29.

Magistrate Lisa Viney listed the matter for a hearing at Nowra Local Court on December 11.

The proposed date was not opposed by Cannon’s lawyer, Bret Ford, who said he would let his client know of the date.

Cannon did not appear in court after being granted an exemption from any future mentions during his last appearance in June. However, he will be present during the hearing.

During his previous court appearance, Ms Viney described the accusation as “very serious”.
